Bio:
Elizabeth Went is a native of Lafayette Indiana and has a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Purdue University. When Elizabeth first set foot in Lala Gallery & Studio in September of 2017 she simply wanted to explore something new and connect with the community. However, what she found was a passion for ceramics that soon blossomed into the creation of Went To Wonderland, a business that now features her work, and led to opening her own studio. Elizabeth gravitates towards creating functional pieces or sculptures that cleverly hide functional pieces - such as a tea set disguised as a Japanese-style lantern. She uses small bowls as test tiles to experiment with various glaze combinations, resulting in the random colored selection. Elizabeth has already begun a tradition of donating these differently colored test tile bowls to the YWCA Clay Bowl Giving Project and hopes to continue in the future.

Artists statement:
I enjoy creating pottery that people can imagine in their day-to-day lives. There is nothing more rewarding than hearing people imagine the life or role a piece of pottery will have in their home before it has even left the studio. Being told snippets about a vase destined to hold sunflowers from the farmers market or a mug someone is already looking forward to drinking coffee from are some of the the most inspiring and motivational moments of being a potter.
